Crews spend night tackling massive blaze at South Yorkshire recycling plant

12 fire engines have been at the premises in the Carr Hill area after the huge inferno erupted shortly after 9pm last night.
Flames and huge plumes of smoke could be seen from across Doncaster and beyond as crews fought to bring the blaze at the scrap metal plant under control overnight.

Hide AdVideo footage from the scene shows a huge pall of smoke while photos show crews tackling fierce flames which are understood to have been burning for more than nine hours.
People living nearby have reported hearing explosions and fire and police chiefs have urged people to stay away from the scene.
Smoke from the blaze has been drifting across the nearby East Coast Main Line railway line and M18 motorway, although it is understood the incident has not impacted on transport.
South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue say they were called to the blaze at 9.20pm last night.

Hide AdA spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Officers from Doncaster have been on scene along with South Yorkshire Fire and South Yorkshire Police at at a recycling centre in Doncaster where a fire has broken out.
“Fire crews remain on scene and are advising to keep windows and doors closed.
“This is not affecting the railway at present. Check before travel.”
Meanwhile, the Environment Agency Midlands tweeted: “Our officers are currently supporting South Yorkshire Fire with a large waste fire.”

Hide AdSouth Yorkshire Fire posted: “Crews remain on scene at the recycling plant fire in Doncaster
“Clear from the footage, there's a fair amount of smoke in the area. If you're affected, we recommend keeping windows and doors closed.”
Balby Carr Bank has been closed in both directions at the roundabout with Woodfield Way and also at the Carr Hill industrial area.
The affected premises are part of the J3 Business Park to the rear of the building which houses One Call Insurance, adjacent to White Rose Way.
