Stride for Sheffield is just one of many initiatives encouraging people to take part in physical exercise and raise money for those in need, as the country approaches the seventh week of the coronavirus lockdown.
The challenge is to run, walk or cycle as far as you can in just one hour during the week, whilst making sure everyone taking part in the event can strictly adhere to the social distancing rules.

Andrew Woffindin, who came up with the idea, said: “The initiative is a really exciting one for people all over Sheffield to be part of. Fortunately, I’m a key worker and I live with my wife and daughter at the moment. Currently, those are luxuries a lot of people out there do not have.
“This initiative will give people the opportunity to keep healthy, get out there and keep active. It could also help people in terms of being introduced to many members taking part, giving birth to new friendships.
“It doesn’t matter if you can only manage one mile, let’s try and virtually exercise as a community and build the miles together. Who knows, if enough people across Sheffield take part, we could accumulate enough miles to take us around the world.”

The results will be published on the Steel City Striders Facebook page at least once a day during the week – so the number of people taking part and overall distance travelled can be recorded.
