Matt Hancock confirms Sheffield and South Yorkshire will remain in Tier 3

Matt Hancock announced the news that Sheffield and South Yorkshire have not changed tiers as he updated MPs on the tier allocations this afternoon.
More areas in England have been placed under the country’s toughest coronavirus restrictions, the Health Secretary told the Commons today.

Hide AdPressure mounted on the Government to act as hospitals across England warned of increasing strains on services due to Covid-19 patient numbers, which have reached their highest levels during the pandemic, while 51,135 further cases and 414 deaths were reported on Tuesday.
Following the Government's latest Tier review, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire will move into Tier 4 from Thursday 31st December, while York & North Yorkshire will move into Tier 3.
Areas moving into Tier 4 include Derby and Derbyshire (Derby, Amber Valley, South Derbyshire, Bolsover, North East Derbyshire, Chesterfield, Erewash, Derbyshire Dales, High Peak)
Nottingham and Nottinghamshire (Gedling, Ashfield, Mansfield, Rushcliffe, Bassetlaw, Newark and Sherwood, Broxtowe).
