Here is a rundown of important upcoming dates across the four nations of the UK, which have adopted different measures to try and stop the spread of the virus.
NOVEMBER 2
The new five-tier system came into effect in Scotland at 6am this morning (Monday, November 2).

Hide AdIt saw the central belt, which Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling and Falkirk, following Dundee and Ayrshire into Level 3.
Aberdeenshire, Aberdeen, Fife, the Borders, Dumfries and Galloway, Argyll and Bute, Perth and Kinross and Angus will be in Level 2.
Highland, Moray, Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland have been assessed as Level 1.
Northern Ireland schools will also open again today after an extended half-term break which formed part of a wider lockdown.

Hide AdNOVEMBER 5
New national lockdown restrictions will come into force across England.
Pubs, bars and restaurants will close, along with non-essential retail and entertainment and leisure facilities such as gyms, soft play centres and cinemas.
Household mixing will be banned under the new measures and people are to work from home if they can as the “stay at home” guidance from earlier this year is reintroduced.
Schools, colleges and universities will remain open, as will places of worship but only for private prayer.

Hide AdNOVEMBER 9
The two-week firebreak lockdown in Wales is due to conclude.
People have only been allowed to leave their homes for limited reasons and had to work from home where possible since October 23.
Leisure, hospitality and tourism businesses were closed as part of the lockdown, along with libraries, community centres and recycling centres.
NOVEMBER 13
In Northern Ireland, hospitality and other businesses are due to reopen after being shut down in a partial lockdown.

Hide AdPubs, bars and restaurants have been closed alongside close contact services such as hairdressers and beauticians since October 16.
DECEMBER 2
Lockdown restrictions are due to be released in England.
But Cabinet minister Michael Gove has already admitted that restrictions may need to be in place for longer.
Sir Jeremy Farrar, chairman of the Wellcome Trust and Sage member, said on the Andrew Marr show that people should not be "fixed” on December 2 as it is not clear what the situation will be like in the last week of November.
